Postpartum Episiotomy: Remedies.
What is the episiotomy, the discomfort and pain that the new mother may feel in the perineum area and what to do to relieve and treat these discomforts.
In the first days after giving birth it is normal for the new mother to feel pain or discomfort due to any sutures applied in the perineum area (the muscle part between the vagina and the anus) following the episiotomy, the cut made to favor the passage of the child, or to a spontaneous laceration of the tissues. Usually, the sense of discomfort resolves in 1-2 weeks, when the stitches are reabsorbed. However, special attention should be paid to wound hygiene to avoid infections.
What to do
1. If the pain of the wound in the first few days makes it difficult to maintain the sitting position, special inflatable donuts can be used.
2. Relieve pain or any swelling in the area by applying an ice pack wrapped in a clean towel.
3. Take Arnica montana 5CH (three granules three times a day) for a few days, on prescription. This plant, typical of the alpine areas, is rich in active ingredients capable of relieving pain. It is therefore the ideal remedy to gently soothe the discomfort associated with the cut of the episiotomy or a possible laceration, accelerating the natural repair of the tissues.
