Baby's first haircut: when to do it?
The first cut can be done around three months of life when some strands could be annoying. It is a cut that mum can do very well from home, without having to take the baby to the hairdresser. However, it is good to get help from another person who holds the baby's head still while cutting his hair: even if he is sleeping, in fact, the baby may feel the tactile sensation and move his head with a snap. As a scissors, it is fine to use a blunt tip type, so there is no danger of hurting him. The first cut to the newborn is made above all to remove irregularities in the length, free the baby from any locks on the forehead or ears that could annoy him or, if he has beautiful hair, to lighten him when it is hot and avoid sweating too much, or to eliminate the classic 'fluff' that could form due to the continuous rubbing of the hair on the pillow, since babies spend most of their time lying in the cradle. The cut does not affect the transformation of the hair in the least, it does not strengthen it nor does it thicken it, indeed in infants the so-called decubitus alopecia could occur, with the thinning of the hair in the area in contact with the pillow, or a temporary fall of the hair in the periauricular area or near the temples: these situations are determined by genetic factors and by the fact that the life cycle of the hair has not yet stabilized, but over the months the hair strengthens itself and begins its normal growth.
Newborn hair, when will it grow?
The final hair and color begin to grow and generally define themselves after the first year of life, but there are cases in which the light and thin hair of the first months remains even beyond, even up to two years. Nothing can be done to speed up the process, it all depends on genetics also for curly or straight hair: only with the growth of the final hair can you be sure of one or the other.
